§ 22-91. Damage or destruction of personal property.

  • (a)

    It shall be unlawful for any person to willfully and maliciously injure or destroy the inanimate personal property of another not belonging to a utility, if the damage resulting from such injury shall be $200.00 or less.

    (b)

    It shall be unlawful for any person to willfully or maliciously break down, injure, remove or destroy any monument created for the purpose of designating the boundaries of this village, or any tract or lot of land, or any tree marked for that purpose, or to break down, injure, remove or destroy any milestone, mileboard, guidepost or guide board, lawfully erected upon any highway, street, or any other public way or railroad, or to willfully or maliciously deface, or alter the inscription on any stone, post or board, or to willfully or maliciously mar or deface any building or signboard or extinguish any lamp, or break, injure, or destroy any streetlight, or to willfully or maliciously injure, remove, deface or destroy any board or structure lawfully erected or used for the posting of bills, posters or other notices, or to willfully or maliciously mutilate, deface or destroy any board or structure lawfully erected or used for the posting of bills, posters or other notices, or to willfully or maliciously mutilate, deface or destroy any bill, poster or other printed or written notice lawfully posted on any board or structure used for that purpose, without the consent of the owner or occupant thereof.

    (c)

    It shall be unlawful for any person to destroy or damage any house, barn, or other building of another, or the appurtenances thereof, if the damage resulting from such injury shall be $200.00 or less.

    (d)

    It shall be unlawful for any person to willfully and maliciously, or wantonly and without cause, cut down or destroy or otherwise injure any tree or shrub not his own, standing or growing on the land of another, the damage for which such cutting down, destruction or injury to the owner of such tree or shrub shall amount to the sum of $200.00 or less.

    (e)

    It shall be unlawful for any person to willfully tear down, destroy or in any manner deface any sign, bill or notice on any land, lot or premises in the village; provided, however, that such sign, bill or notice is not in violation of any general law of the state or municipal ordinance, and was placed by the owner or lessee or by his consent.

    (f)

    It shall be unlawful for any person to willfully, maliciously or wantonly tear, deface or mutilate or write upon, or by other means injure or mar any book, pamphlet, map, chart, painting, picture, photograph, periodical, newspaper, magazine, manuscript or exhibit or any part thereof belonging or loaned to any public library.
